Part of the collection's material is freely accessible, but the largest part of it is stored in the archives. In this case the material in question is only available according to the rules of the house.

 

 


Paintings The collection of about 300 paintings dating from the 17th century onwards (main focus: 18th and 19th century) consists of theatre genre paintings, portraits as well as paintings showing individual productions. The paintings are registered in an internal catalogue, in which the material is accessible via the painter's name, the names of the persons shown on the painting or the name of the play in question.

Theatre Buildings The theatre building department comprises about 600 depictions of theatre buildings from the inside and from outside as well as garden and open-air theatres (original and print graphics) from Europe.The collection is sorted through place names as well as individual theatres. 
  
Scenes and Costume Sketches The scenic graphics collection (original and print graphics) consists of set and costume sketches for more than 17.000 productions of the European theatre from the 17th century onwards, main focus: German speaking theatre of the 19th and 20th century. The scenic graphics collection is sorted by the names of artists and the titles of the productions.It is published in a four volume "Index", in which the material in question can be found via the name of the artist, the title of the production, the place or name of the dramatist. 
  
Persons The portrait graphics collection (original and print graphics) contains about 7.000 sheets from the18th century until today. It is sorted by the names of the persons, by which means the material is also accessible. It has been published in a stock index which contains reproductions of all sheets. 
  
Posters

The theatre poster collection contains about 6.500 posters of German speaking productions of the 20th century. The collection has not been catalogued and is not accessible at present. 
  
Photos

Photos The photo collection contains about 300.000 photos, principally from the German speaking theatre from 1850 until today. The main focus lies on the Weimarer Republik, theatre during national socialism as well as on the theatre in the BRD during the 50īs and the 60īs. There is no catalogue.

The historically most important photos of the collection will be catalogued and digitalized by a project which is under preparation at the Deutsche Forschungsgemein- schaft at the moment. 

  
Theatre Buildings The collection comprises about 50.000 outdside and inside views of theatre buildings. It is sorted by places and theatres 
  
Productions The collection comprises about 150.000 photos of scenes taken from 1895 onwards. It is sorted by the titles of the plays. 
  
Persons The collection comprises about 100.000 role and civil photos of actors from the middle of the 19th century onwards. It is sorted by the names of the actors.
