Special Collections

The special collections within the Theatre Archive have come about either by their provenance or by the heterogeneity of their material or by the genesis of the collection or by their momentary state of registration. These special collections are stored in the archives.

 

 


Puppet theatre archives In the puppet theatre archives you will find marionettes, stick-puppets and string- puppets, as well as shadow play puppets from China, Indonesia, Egypt, Turkey and Europe. There are numerous materials which provide you with an overview of the history of puppet theatre. Aniongst those available are scripts, theatre leaflets, posters, theatre set layouts, pictures and press articles. 
  
Masks This collection is comprised of masks used throughout the 20th century, as well as masks gathers from Japan and Indonesia. 
  
Kriegstheater-Archiv
(War Theatre Archives) 
The war theatre archives comprise about 3.000 documents about the front and prisoner of war theatre of the two world wars. It is sorted according to documents belonging either to the first or the second world war and also to location. It has been electronically registered. 
  
Karl-Valentin-Nachlass
(Karl-Valentin-Heritage) 
The heritage comprises thick manuscripts and texts as well as photos of the productions and movies of Karl Valentin. In addition to that it contains posters of movies and plays, music, reviews, drawings, personal photos, glass negatives, extensive slide series, collages and various stage objects. 
  
Ostasiatika The collection comprises wood engravings, texts and photos of the classical Japanese theatre, Chinese and Javanese shadow play puppets as well as other Javanese puppets. There is no catalogue. 
  
Music The music collection comprises textbooks of opera, operetta ballets and revues as well as sheets of music of various musical genres. There is no catalogue. The collection is not accessible at the moment. 
  
Film The film collection comprises material from the early days of film history, especially of the German film of the 20īs and 30īs. 
  
Film Journals The collection comprises various year's issues of about 25 film journals. The material is accessible via the titles of the journals. 
  
Film Programmes The collection of film programmes of German and international films of the 20īs up to the 50īs comprises about 25.000 copies. They are sorted by their issue numbers. Only a part of them is registered in a title register. 
  
Film Posters There are about 400 posters from films of the 20īs and 30īs which are sorted according to their titles. They are registered in a stock index. 
  
Film Photos The collection comprises about 17.000 film stills from films of the 20īs and 30īs. They are sorted by the titles of the films and registered in an internal catalogue. They are accessible under film titles and actor's names.
